What kind of language is Japanese? In this section you can take Japanese lessons and try speaking the language. You can also learn the characters used to write Japanese. Why not do the lessons with a friend and try speaking Japanese to each other?

In Lessons 1 to 7 we learned to say a lot of things in Japanese. Let's look back at what we have covered so far.


  • In Lesson 1, we learned simple greetings like:

  • In Lesson 3, we talked about some verbs and how to use them in the present tense:

  • In Lesson 4, we learned how to put those verbs into the past tense:

  • In Lesson 5, we found out how to ask and answer some questions:

  • In Lesson 6, the questions got tougher as we asked some in the past tense:

  • And in Lesson 7, we learned how to add adjectives to our sentences:



Today, in Lesson 8, we'll be learning how to talk about all the members of our families. If you learn all eight lessons well, you'll be able to have some pretty good conversations in Japanese!
