Determiners

As of this unit, you will have encountered every type of determiner.

Belirteç örnekleri:
  • Articles, like in le pantalon ("the pants").
  • Possessive adjectives, like in ton cochon ("your pig").
  • Cardinal numbers like in deux cheveux ("two horses").
  • Interrogative adjectives, like in quel chat ? ("which cat?").
  • Exclamation adjectives, like in quelle chance ! ("what luck!").
  • Negative adjectives, like in aucune chance ("no chance!").
  • Indefinite adjectives, like in plusieurs jouets ("several toys") or certains hommes ("certain men") from this unit.

İstisnai durumlar.
There are very few exceptions to the rule that nouns must have a determiner. A few are verb-based. For instance: names of professions, religions and a few nouns expressing a status with être; names of languages with parler; and most nouns with devenir.
  • Je suis médecin. — I am a doctor.
  • Il est bon élève. — He is a good student.
  • Elle est victime de son succès. — She is a victim of her own success.
  • Paul était témoin à mon mariage. — Paul was a witness at my wedding.
  • Je parle anglais. — I speak English.
  • Il devient roi du Nord. — He becomes King of the North.
Determiners are also omitted after certain prepositions.

Belirli edatlardan sonra iptal edilenler.
  • Je ne peux pas vivre sans eau. — I cannot live without water.
  • Nous le transportons par avion — We transport it by aircraft.
  • C'est une feuille de papier. — This is a sheet of paper.
