The volume is made up of some 1000 entries or 'semantic frames' (see
below under Semantic frames), each one containing a number of
synonymic terms - in some cases as few as two, in others as many as
twenty or, in some rare cases, even more. Twenty is generally the
limit, since beyond that single entries would tend to become too
difficult to assimilate and their value would therefore diminish.
Although a work such as this cannot aspire to the same kind of
quantitative exhaustiveness as a traditional dictionary, it nevertheless
has as one of its prime aims the greatest possible coverage of the areas
in which people are likely to find it most useful and of the points on
which they are most likely to consult it.
