"I am blue." vs. "Ich bin blau."
The literal translation of “I am blue” is “Ich bin blau.” However, both sentences mean something completely different.
For all those people who aren’t first language speakers of English: “to be blue” can mean something like to be sad, to be melancholic, …
But “blau sein” has nothing to do with being sad. It’s colloquial for being drunk.
Example: “Er war so blau, dass er vergessen hat, wo er wohnt.” = “He was so wasted that he forgot where he lives.”
